Birth

Reference to John Newman's age was made in the will of Virgus Smith.

Will

His will proven in 1700 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia that gave his son Thomas a plantation named "Corkers Quarters" and named his wife Ruth, daughter Isabella and William Holden (when he becomes free) as heirs.

Note

John Newman was the first of this Newman family to live in Isle of Wight County. He served on a Jury in 1667 and was a signer, with Joseph Bridger and others, of the "Petition of the Loyalists" in 1677.

Note

John and Ruth Newman might have had 2 more children in addition to the two that we have already documented. In the Will of John Snellock recorded in Isle of Wight County on 29 April 1679 it mentions "John Newman's four children" as heirs. Since John Newman's will only mentioned Thomas and Isabella any additional children must not have survived to his death.
